Important Information for Students – FabLab

Tools and Borrowed Equipment

  • Tools must not be removed from the workshop areas.
  • Specific tools can be borrowed from Jens or the Peters in room 5.153.
  • Students are responsible for any equipment they borrow, and it is not covered by AAU.

Materials

  • As a general rule, students must bring their own materials. Materials for 3D printing are an exception.
  • Most materials can be purchased from us—ask if you are unsure.

Always ask us before using a material if you are unsure whether it is approved. The laser cutter may only be used with soft materials. Approved material types can be purchased from Academic Books; all other materials must be approved in advance.

Safety and Housekeeping

  • Do not bring furniture or food into the workshops.
  • Follow the safety markings on the floor, and place materials and equipment only within the designated areas.
  • Long hair must always be tied back when working in the wood and metal workshops.
  • Loose-fitting clothing and bags are not permitted in the workshops.
  • Safety shoes must always be worn in the metal workshop. They can be borrowed from us.
  • Sort waste into the correct containers. Food waste must never be placed in the large containers; use the designated three-compartment waste stations.
  • Used utility knife blades and needles must be placed in the designated yellow containers.
  • The areas are under video surveillance. Violations of the rules may result in exclusion from the facilities.
  • Use common sense and always follow staff instructions.
  • Students must comply with occupational health and safety legislation and educational environment legislation.

Machinery and Training Requirements

  • Students may not use the circular saw, CNC milling machines, metal workshop or Wetlab without supervision.
  • The vacuum former and 3D printers may only be used after receiving instruction.
